I can still picture my first Cavalier, Bentley. As he got older, getting up from his bed took longer, the stairs became a daily battle, and those once-bouncy morning greetings turned into slow, gentle steps. I knew joint problems were common in senior dogs, but seeing my lively boy slow down was heartbreaking. So I … Read more
When I first started baking treats for Bentley, I didn’t think much about flour. I just grabbed whatever was in the pantry (usually all-purpose wheat flour). He loved them, of course. But later, I started noticing things I couldn’t ignore: occasional itchiness, tummy troubles, and a few too many trips to the grass after snack … Read more
Yikes. That’s the word that comes to mind when my dog yawns directly in my face during morning cuddles. Dog breath is real, and it’s not pleasant. I’ve tried commercial breath mints, expensive dental chews, even those water additives that promise miracles. Nothing really worked long-term, and the ingredient lists on most products made me … Read more
In my house, there’s this ongoing game my kids invented – every time we make a new recipe, they have to give it a “creative” name. And by creative, I mean absolutely ridiculous. It started with pancakes (“Fluff Circles”), then spaghetti (“Wormy Wonders”), and somehow it’s evolved into naming our homemade dog food and treats … Read more
This recipe actually comes with a little backstory. Years ago, one of my closest friends had a sweet old Pomeranian who had lost nearly all his teeth. She swore by this soft homemade mix: it kept him happy, nourished, and able to actually enjoy mealtime again. Later on, when Bentley was getting older and struggling … Read more
Some recipes come out of pure necessity. I remember one rainy Saturday when the kids were bouncing off the walls, Snickers was underfoot begging for attention, and I just needed SOMETHING. Anything to keep everyone busy and happy. That’s when this recipe became a lifesaver. Three ingredients I already had, one bowl, ten minutes in … Read more
Some evenings, I feel like I’m running a circus act. Homework at the table, dinner on the stove, and Snickers sitting in the kitchen doorway giving me those “don’t forget me” eyes. Between the kids asking for help with math problems and me trying not to burn the pasta, the last thing I want is … Read more
When we first brought Bentley home (our very first family dog) I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much about feeding a dog beyond the basics. He wagged his tail, ate his kibble, and seemed happy. Simple. At least that’s what I thought back then. But later in Bentley’s life, things started to change. His coat … Read more
When I first became a dog parent, I thought vegetables were just “extras” in a dog’s bowl, kind of like the side salad you push around your plate. But then I noticed something funny: my first dog, Bentley, would sit under the table and beg not for the meat, but for the crunchy carrots. Snickers? … Read more
As loving pet parents, we often want to share our favorite foods with our furry companions. While many fruits can provide excellent nutritional benefits for dogs, others can be dangerous or even toxic. Understanding which fruits are safe and beneficial versus those that should be avoided entirely is crucial for your dog’s health and wellbeing. … Read more
