Our beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are bred for sweet temperaments and health. We do annual CEAR eye and Advanced Cardiac clearances as well as baseline MRI’s and Heart Echo’s when age appropriate. With only having a few litters a year, we keep a waiting list for our puppies as we are extremely selective in our breeding program. While our Cavaliers are actively shown in AKC conformation and other AKC Companion events, they are treasured members of our family and sleep in our beds at night.”

Wyndsong Cavaliers

The puppies stay with Mom for 10 weeks or more depending on when I feel they are ready for their new home. They are all vet checked at 8-10 weeks and their first shots are given at 9 weeks old following our doctors Vaccination protocol. We look for homes where people are home during the day and provide fenced yards as well. Our puppies are registered with the original old club the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA. About: “Stuarthome is a small, dedicated AKC hobby show breeder/owner of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Our primary goals are to have healthy, beautiful show quality Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as our companions and to serve the breed as a member of the ACKCSC Health Committee. Furthermore, Stuarthome’s philosophy is to only breed our Cavaliers once or twice in their lifetime after completing health screenings by board certified specialists so retrospectively, we had very few litters through the years and know those bloodlines very well. Subsequently, any puppies in our litters are carefully reviewed as Stuarthome’s show prospects potentials as first and foremost as our family members. After the show potential assessment, a puppy might be available as a pet to a home approved by us. Any pets will be placed as companions with spay/neuter agreements. Overall, people that have our Cavaliers are considered as part of the Stuarthome’s extended family. Stuarthome is a voting member of the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Inc. This club is the AKC Parent Club for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in the United States of America.”

Our Cavaliers are first and foremost our companions, living with us in our home, sharing our lives and receiving all the best that life has to offer. Our puppies are hand raised and cherished by us. They stay with us for twelve weeks, giving them and their mum ample and much needed time together before moving onto their new families and lives. This is a critical time in their development and do not want it cut short. We do require all potential families to visit with us, meet our Cavalier family, our puppies and for us to meet you.”

How to Choose a Good Cavalier Breeder (or Seller)?

As I mentioned already, choosing the right breeder can be overwhelming. Especially if you don’t know what to look for and lack the experience of buying a dog.

Here are the things to look for when choosing a good cavalier breeder:

Do Your Research Before Choosing a Breeder

I have made you the list of available breeders in Michigan, but I don’t have personal experience with all of them, so I can’t give guarantees. You should be able to get more information by checking their website and chatting with them over the phone.

This can help you shortlist a few of them that give you a better impression before visiting them in person. If the first impression is not good, it can save you a lot of time by not having to meet them.

Meet the Cavalier Breeder in Person

This is the best way to get the feeling of the person you are buying your dog from. In this way, you can see the environment in which your future puppy was being raised. You will also get an idea of how the breeder is treating his dogs.

Ask Many Questions

I think you can never ask too many questions. Choosing a dog and a breeder is an important life decision, so you should ask as many questions as you think is necessary to make the right choice. Here are some of the questions that can help you start.

You can ask the breeder:

  • To tell you more about their experience
  • How long are they breeding cavaliers
  • How many dogs do they keep
  • How many litters they raise each year
  • Are they breeding any other breeds
  • How do they keep their dogs
  • What do they do to keep the dogs healthy
  • Why did they choose to breed cavaliers
  • Ask them to provide some references (previous owners or their veterinarian)

It’s a good sign if they are keeping in touch with families who adopted a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy from them.

Besides these direct questions, through casual conversation, you can even get a sense of how much they know about the breed.

You want to choose the one that is knowledgeable about the dog they are selling, genuine, and open. They should also ask you many questions back.

Good dog breeders will want to sell puppies only to people that are prepared and ready to own a dog. They want to put their dogs in homes that will make them happy.

So they will want to know a lot about the buyer as well. If that is not the case, then this person is probably not the right choice. They could be doing it only for profit; in most cases, that’s not the breeder you want to choose.

Expect the breeder to be registered with an accepted kennel club (American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Kennel Club, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Kennel Club – USA).

However, membership does not guarantee that the breeder is raising quality animals, so consider it a minimum requirement.

Reputable breeders will have a written contract for the sale of their puppies. This is a responsible business practice that clarifies the rights and responsibilities of both the seller and the buyer. If they are unwilling to put things in writing or they try to avoid it may be a red flag.

Cavalier King Charles Puppy Pedigree

Reputable Cavalier King Charles breeders will be able to provide a healthy history of their breeding dogs and their pedigree. They should also be able to provide information about the parents, grandparents, and sometimes even great-grandparents of their dogs.

You want to find a puppy with a heritage of dogs who lived long, healthy lives. Of course, you can expect to have many generations of dogs without any health issues.

If a breeder says that all of his dogs were without any health problems, they could be dishonest about it. This is because the Mitral valve disease alone is so prevalent in Cavalier King Charles that it is highly unlikely that no one in the dog family was affected.

What is the Average Cavalier Price in Michigan?

At the time of writing this text, the average price for a Cavalier King Charles puppy is around 1500USD. It depends, of course, on many factors like age, color, lineage, and pedigree, breeder, etc. Based on these factors, you will find different prices advertised ranging from 1000USD to 3500USD.
